On Monday, January 12, a new Ethanol -85 fuel dispenser opened to the public in North Highlands.
Produced in California from domestically grown corn, ethanol is blended at a ratio of 85% to 15% regular unleaded gasoline and can be used in the estimated 50,000 Flex-Fuel capable vehicles in the Sacramento area.
“This moves us along the road to better fuel security and makes us less dependent on foreign sources,” says Assemblyman Roger Niello.
Niello and Executive Director of the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District, Larry Greene, were present for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new E-85 pump.
Some local residents were also able to cash in on a 85¢ per gallon special to open the pump.
Mark Richards of Sacramento was very excited about the new pump.
“I’ve been waiting three years for this,” says Richards.
He has been driving a flex-fuel vehicle, but until now, it hasn’t been convenient for him to utilize the technology.
The new E-85 dispenser is located at the Flyers/Valero Gas Station at 4250 Madison Avenue, at Hillsdale. It is the second of 29 planned Nella-owned Flex-Fuel sites in the Sacramento area.
